Happy Holidays, XMass Rubbish Delay, Street Signs Sold

Happy Holidays - The news team here at Woonsocket Patch (all one of us) wishes you and yours happy holidays and a Merry Christmas. That's in about two days, in case you want to get started on your shopping.

Special Election -
Campaign junkies rejoice - there's a Special Election brewing to fill the Dist. 49 seat vacated by new Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt. Tomorrow is the deadline for candidates to file nomination papers with 50 signatures, and those will be certified the day after Christmas, Dec. 26. Check out our story on the four candidates who may still be collecting signatures today.

Giving Tree - To help make the holidays brighter for children in need, BankRI has partnered with 12 local non-profits to provide gifts for the less fortunate this holiday season. Gifts collected at BankRI’s Woonsocket branch Giving Tree at 1175 Cumberland Hill Road will help Connecting for Children & Families.

Old Street Signs Sold to aid Milk Fund
 - Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt has announced that the City of Woonsocket will be selling the old green and white city street signs to anyone interested for $10 per sign with the proceeds to benefit the Milk Fund. The complete list of street names will be posted on the city’s websitewww.ci.woonsocket.ri.us and will be available for sale in Harris Hall at City Hall weekdays starting from Dec 16, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. City Hall will be closed Dec. 24 through Dec. 25.

The signs are a nostalgic gift for anyone’s home, office or place of business, and the proceeds will help a very worthy charity.

YWCA Mitten Tree - YWCA RI at 514 Blackstone St. is displaying a Mitten Tree from now until Jan. 10.  A Mitten Tree holds mittens, gloves, hats, scarves, socks and other warm clothing on its branches, typically for children. Anyone in need of these items is welcome to them.

All donations are warmly welcomed. Please leave labels/tags on for
information regarding clothing materials and sizes. To learn more,

Share your snapshots - As snowfall like Tuesday afternoon become more frequent, you'll probably find yourself with snapshots of snow men, angels or the shoveling/clearing chore added to your morning routine on the way to work. What to do with those photos...what to do... East Providence Patch has the answer: post them here to share with your fellow readers.
