Council Tonight, School Com Apps, Shots and Parent Training Wednesday

Council tonight - This evening, the Woonsocket City Council will meet in a work session to discuss proposed changes to the city's ordinance on water, sewers and sewage disposal, at 6:30 p.m. in the second floor conference room at City Hall, 169 Main St.
During their regular meeting at 7 p.m., the council will consider, among other items on their agenda: 
  • A resolution naming Raymond Bacon Historian Laureate of the City of Woonsocket and the Museum of Work and Culture.
  • A resolution approving Mayor Leo Fontaine's appointment of Ainsley Morriseau-Cantoral to the Redevelopment Agency. 
School Committee Apps - Applications are being accepted for five positions on the new Woonsocket School Board for staggered terms ranging from one to three years. The deadline is Nov. 25 at 4 p.m.

Candidates must be residents and registered voters. Individuals with strong finance, public policy and educational experience as well as exhibiting an understanding of the diversity of the community are encouraged to apply.

School Board members are appointed for terms which are staggered to have positions up for renewal each year. Application forms may be found on the city's website, www.ci.woonsocket.ri.us/ starting Tuesday. Completed applications should be emailed or delivered to Christina Harmon-Duarte the Director of Personnel tcduarte@woonsocketri.org or at Woonsocket City Hall.

Upon receipt of the applications, the School Board Nominating Committee, appointed by Mayor-elect Lisa Baldelli-Hunt, will select nominees from the pool of finalists for consideration. The new School Board will be subject to City Council approval. School Board members will receive compensation set by ordinance of the City Council.

Autumnfest Button Update -
WNRI's Jeff Gamache reports the $200 Autumnfest Buton prize has been claimed by Marie Harnois. 

They're still looking for the trip winner. A new number for that prize has been drawn: 1362.

Parent Leadership Training Wednesday - Join RiverzEdge Arts Project Wednesday at the Woonsocket Harris Public Library for a taste of the Parent Leadership Training Institute, a 20-week class that teaches parents the tools of civics and democracy to improve outcomes for children. Shots on Wednesday - Woonsocket Emergency Management Agency is sponsoring a free public TDAP (tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis) Flu and Pneumococcal vaccination clinic on Wednesday Nov. 20, at Woonsocket High School, 777 Cass Ave, 5-8 p.m.:

  • FLU: Protects against seasonal flu for ages 6 months and older
  • TDAP: Protects against tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis (whooping cough) For ages 11 and older (especially for those in contact with infants)
  • PNEUMOCCAL: Protects against pneumonia, for all adults 19 and older

There is no out of pocket cost for these vaccinations.
