Woonsocket's Birthday Block Party Guide

Planning to patronize the Aug. 29 Block Party? Here's everything you need to know.

A month-long series of fundraisers are over, the Arc de Triomphe replica is framed and waiting its decorated fabric walls and faux waterfall, and Woonsocket's 125th birthday block party is tomorrow, 4 to 7 p.m.

Tonight, Main Street will be closed to through traffic from Monument Square to Railroad Street, starting at 6 p.m.

One half-mile from Monument Square to Market Square will be packed with 10 acts on each of 12 stages, and 28 performances altogether. Eleven bands will play non-stop from 7 to 10 p.m., complemented by light shows, performance artists, and vendors. It will be the largest block party on the East Coast, boasts Block Party Co-Chair Al Beauparlant, who organized the city's 100th birthday block party in 1988.

Beauparlant said the event will feature 12 food vendors, as well as a Taste of Woonsocket food court at Beacon Charter School at 320 Main St. Nearby, at the corner of Main and Federal St., Stage 11 will host 10 performers for 20 minutes a piece. And there are eleven other stages (see the attached schedule of acts).

"It's a big deal," said Woonsocket Fire Chief Gary Lataille, who's been working to coordinate with police, DPW and safety officials in advance of the event.

There'll be seven food trucks selling ice cream, barbeque and hot dogs, 12 vendors under a tent, and sixteen arts and crafts vendors (see list below)

Parking for the event will be at Hamlet Middle School, with shuttle buses bringing people back and forth to various portions of the party (see attached schedule).
