Wednesday: School's Open, Providence Street Closed, Creative Writing, And Mark It

Welcome to Wednesday, Woonsocket. Here are some things to plan your day around.

School's in - Today is the first day of school for Woonsocket Public Schools. Mind the extra pedestrians crossing the street this morning, and be careful passing bus stops. The first day will be a sunny one for students, and 74 degrees.

Providence Street Closed - Repairs to a broken sewer main on Providence Street near #121 will close the road today from to Lincoln Street to Ballou Street. The repair is expected to take one workday to complete. There will be no thru-trucking on Providence Street from South Main Street to Smithfield Road that day. Check out a list of detours and plan your day accordingly.

Register to vote - Oct. 7 is the deadline to register to vote for the Nov. 6 election, and Oct. 16 is the deadline to request a mail-in ballot. If you're an unaffiliated voter, you can vote as either Republican or Democratic in the Sept. 11 primary - just ask the poll worker to to dis-affiliate you on the way out after to return to independent status. This election season voters will also be required to show a voter ID.

Creative Writing - Crack open your laptops, crack those knuckles, and limber up your imagination. The Creative Writing Group meets tonight at 7 p.m. at the Woonsocket Public Library.

Mark it on our calendar - If you've got an event you want to share with the many readers of the Woonsocket Patch, you can be your own best advocate - post it yourself to the Woonsocket Patch calendar. Fill in the blanks with your event's information, and you're good to go.
