Thursday Five: Warm Up, Story Concert, Help, Diner, Blog!

It's cold, cold, cold, but there are still some things to know:

Warmth - It's going to be extremely cold the next few days. Stay inside if you can, wear layers if you have to go out, and pick up a pair of heavy wool socks. If your heat is out, or you don't have a spot to heat, there's a warming shelter set up at the Senior Center from 1 to 4 p.m.

We've got more tips on dealing with extreme cold. Read up and stay warm!

Storytellers Concert - Join YWCA Rhode Island and Rhode Island Black Storytellers (RIBS) for Funda Fest 15! The family storytelling concert will take place from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at YWCA Rhode Island, 514 Blackstone St. in Woonsocket. The event is free and open to the public. RSVP by calling 401-769 - 7450.

Help out - A bunch of folks are out of a home following yesterday's fire at 170 Lincoln St. Residents have set up collections for the families displaced by the fire on Facebook. The Renaud Family is in need clothing for their 2 young daughters ages 1 and 4. Sizes needed are 5T and 2T. They're in need of every-day items, too.

Donations can be dropped off at The Primitive Millhouse 1452 Broncos Hwy Unit #15 Harrisville RI (Dunkin Donuts PLaza) and 166 Carrington Avenue in Woonsocket.

For the Castro family, items are needed for two boys, ages 9 and 7 and size 7 and 8-10. A fund has been set up for them, or you can e-mail dbracamonte2@gmail.com.

If you're running a collection for any of the families displaced by the Front Street fire, post the information here in the comments to alert readers where to send help.

Diner for lease - Been itching to start up a new restaurant? Neighborworks Blackstone River Valley is offering experienced restauranteurs a lease of the diner car once home to “Champs Diner,” on Park Avenue, now waiting a new tenant and customers at 719 Front St. The car was one of more than 600 diners produced by the Worcester Lunch Car and Carriage Manufacturing Company.

Applications to win the lease, including a resume and business plan, are due Feb. 13.
