RI Bill: Adults Must Accompany Students at Bus Stops

The bill would require a parent, guardian, or "authorized person" to be present at bus stops for young children.

State lawmakers are considering a bill that would require an adult to be at bus stops for young students.

The bill would require a parent, guardian, or "authorized person" to be present at bus stops for students in kindergarten through sixth grade. Each student who doesn't have an adult there would be returned to school.

The bill was sponsored by State Rep. Anastasia Williams, D-Providence. A House Committee on Wednesday recommended it be further studied.
