Woonsocket Police Charge Driver in Car vs. Pole Crash Near Cumberland Street Dunkin with DUI

On Saturday, July 20 three Woonsocket Police officers responded to the Dunkin Donuts on Cumberland Street for a report of a driver striking a pole at about 1:29 a.m.

When Officer Jason Berthelette arrived, he saw the vehicle in question in a nearby parking lot, with heavy front-end damage, and two men sitting next to it.

Witnesses identified one of the men, Gregory Good, 25, of 5 Briarwood Road, Franklin, MA, as the driver. Witnesses also said the vehicle had traveled straight through the intersection without breaking before colliding with the utility pole, according to Berthelette's report.

Berthelette spoke with Good, whose responses were delayed by 30 seconds to one minute as he answered questions. Good said he'd been at a friend's house and was returning to his own home at the time of the crash.

He said he'd had two sips of a mixed drink, but noted he does not drink alcohol. Good consented to a sobriety test, failing to touch heel to toe during the walk and turn and using his arms for balance. He also stepped off the line and did not turn properly. He also failed the one-leg stand.

A blood alcohol test on the scene came back negative for alcohol, though, causing Berthelette to suspect some other drug was involved. Berthelette arrested Good and transported him to Woonsocket Police Headquarters, where he refused to take a blood test and also refused his phone call.

Good was issued citations for driving under the influence and for refusing a chemical test.
