Woonsocket Fire Has New Mobile Command Truck

Federal grant paid for the $54,000 vehicle.

Woonsocket Fire Department's deputy chiefs have a new $54,000 mobile command center at their disposal, thanks to a federal Community Development Block Grant.

The old mobile command truck was totaled in an accident about six months ago, said Dep. Chief Paul Shatraw. After winning the grant, the contract for a new truck was sent to Imperial Municipal Services of Mendon, MA.

What the department got back was a state-of-the-art Incident Command truck, a modified Chevy Tahoe with radio and digital communications, a laptop dock and an array of slide-out tables the department's deputy chiefs can use to plan emergency responses during fire calls.

"This becomes your office on wheels during a fire or emergency," Shatraw said.
