State Fire Marshal IDs Lydia Avenue Fire Victim, Cause

Early-morning blaze caused by careless smoking.

The RI Fire Marshal's office has identified the man who died after Tuesday morning's fire at at 243 Lydia Ave. as Charles Ernest Beerheide, 50.

Dep. Fire Chief Roger Perreault said the Fire Marshal released the name and the cause of the fire late this afternoon. The man lived at the house alone, 630WPRO.com reports. Perreault said the Fire Marshal determined the cause of the fire as careless smoking.

At about 1:43 p.m., members of the City Highway Department were boarding up the home's scorched windows, at the request of the WFD, said Highway Director Rick Lambert.
