Police Log: Wrong Way Driver Arrested For DUI New Year's Day

The following arrest information was provided by the Woonsocket Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

 

Woonsocket Police report a man they stopped early New Year's morning for driving the wrong way on Social Street had alcohol as well as a poor sense of direction working against him while navigating city streets.

Officers stopped Patrick Lima, 27, 149 Lowden St., Pawtucket, at 84 Social St., for driving his gray 2006 Pontiac the wrong way on the one-way road at 1:54 a.m. Lima told officers that he was unfamiliar with local roads, according to the report, and had just left a music gig at Ciro's Tavern, headed home.

As Officer Jason L. Berthelette was speaking with Lima, he noticed an odor of alcohol on his breath, according to his report. Berthelette also noticed Lima's eyes were bloodshot, and he saw several beer bottles on the passenger's side floor of his car.

Lima consented to a field sobriety test, which he failed, swaying and using his opposite foot during the one-foot stand and walking the wrong number of steps for a walk and turn test.

Lima was arrested, charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, first offense, and refusal to submit to a chemical test. He was transported to Woonsocket Police Headquarters on Clinton St. His car was towed away by Sandy's Towing.
