Police Log: Robbery Victim Arrested For Mushrooms In Bedroom

A bad Monday for a man whose electronic posessions caught the eyes of treacherous houseguests got worse when police responding to his call found the hallucinogenic mushrooms they overlooked.

On May 14 at 9 p.m., Woonsocket Police responded to 270 Second Ave., apt. 3, for a report of an armed robbery by four men wearing black clothing.

Police spoke with Joseph C. Long, 31, who said he, his 10-year-old daughter, and Felix Almonte, 33, were playing video games with four other guests when one, identified only as "D", offered them marijuana. All but Long's daughter accepted. Shortly after, Long said, the four guests forced he and his daughter to sit on the couch as they demanded their cash, keys and cell phones. Almonte was forced to lie face down on the floor by one man weilding a black revolver, which the robber then used to strike him in the head.

Long said the four men took two laptops, a Play Station 3 game system and a Nintendo Wii game system in addition to their cash, cell phones and car keys, opening drawers and searching the entire apartment.

Officers noted the apartment was in disarray and smelled of marijuana. As they surveyed the apartment's rooms, one officer noticed a bag of mushrooms in Long's bedroom that had been left in plain sight by the robbers. Police found 11.5 grams of the hallucinogens in the bag, worth $115, which Long admitted was his.

Police arrested Long and charged him with posession of schedule I, II, III, IV, V drugs/narcotics violations.
