Police Log: Man Attempts To Stab Ex-Wife During Plea To Rekindle Relationship

The following information was supplied by the Woonsocket Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Woonsocket Police report Joshua Paradis, with a last known address of Manville Road, called on his ex-wife early Dec. 28 to discuss getting back together, but attempted to stab her instead when she refused to let him take their daughter from her home.

The couple's 9-year-old daughter ran downstairs to get the help of the landlord as her parents struggled, according to a police report. The landlord ran up to the mother's apartment, where Paradis had put the woman in a leg hold around her neck. He told Paradis to leave, telling him what he was doing wasn't worth it. Paradis responded by threatening to beat up the landlord, but the attacker relented and ran down the stairs.

The mother told police that at about 4 a.m., Paradis had knocked on the door, waking her. She let him in and the two began to talk about getting back together, if Paradis agreed to get his life together. Paradis turned violent when he asked to take their daughter from the apartment, and the mother refused since it was late and Paradis is homeless, according to the report.

Police checked the area around the building, finding a man hiding in the driveway who was later identified as Paradis. They ordered him to show his hands and lay down on the ground, which he refused to do, shaking his head "No", obscuring his left hand from view.
