Police Log: Man Arrested For Firing BB Gun From Second Floor Apartment

The following arrest information was provided by the Woonsocket Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Ibrahim Rompy Medina, 25, of 100 Robinson St., apt. 6, would've been smart to abstain from target practice within city limits, since it's illegal and he wasn't invisible to his neighbors.

Police responded to his apartment building at about 7:43 p.m. Dec. 2 for a report of someone firing a BB gun off a second floor balcony. They spoke with a woman who said that as she was taking out the trash with her son, she heard multiple BB gun shots from above, looked up and saw Medina firing into the trees nearby.

The woman said the yelled up at him, "What the hell are you doing?" and went inside with her son.

Police spoke with two other people in the building who confirmed the story, and then knocked on Medina's door. A search of his bedroom, with Medina's permission, didn't turn up the gun. Police arrested him nonetheless, acting on probably cause from the reports of his neighbors.

Medina was arrested and and taken to Woonsocket Police Headquarters, where he charged with discharging a firearm in a compact area.

I would never condone a dangerous act but please a BB gun. If this guy was shooting people be one thing. Hell some of the air soft guns shot as fast as some of the lower powered BB guns. Guess we should arrest kids that play with them to. What is this city coming to memere? Over reacting of everybody. Like Jays comment about not finding a BB gun. Easy enough to hide I suppose but they should have at least found it and not gone just the neighbors words, they might of had a grudge

Jeff, The problem is that it IS against the law to fire any fire arm within city limits and that some people have no respect for the law. Laws were put in place for the safety of the population everywhere. Apparently it does not matter to some people that those laws are broken frequently in this city.

A firearm is a weapon that shoots 1 or more projectiles through the ignition of a propellant...a bb gun.does not fall under the category firearm. But under the sub category of weapon. It uses compressed air or co2.
