Man Takes License Plate for Trip, Arrested for Theft
Woonsocket Police responded to 60 Pleasant St. for a complaint from a woman who said her neighbor had stolen a license plate from her visitor and used it on his own car.
Officer Jeffrey Gagnon spoke with the woman, who told him that while a visitor was parked at her home recently, a license plate was stolen off of it. Gagnon checked and confirmed a report about the stolen plate had been made.
The woman told Gagnon she had spotted her neighbor, Fernando Luis Pacheco, 24, of 62 Pleasant St., Apt. 2FLR, leave his apartment that morning at about 8 a.m. with her friend's license plate on his car, a white Honda Civic. She said he returned, removed the plate from his Civic and placed it under his front seat.
Gagnon noted Pacheco's car didn't have any plates on it at the time. He spoke with Pacheco, who admitted the plate was under his front seat, but wasn't stolen. As police records indicated otherwise, Gagnon arrested Pacheco, charging him with possession of stolen vehicle parts.
