Man Flees Police During Robbery Investigation, Runs Toward Police Station

A City man renting a room at the Woonsocket Motor Lodge fled officers Oct. 27 at 8:27 p.m. when they visited to check out a woman's claim that she'd been robbed there, giving up as he realized he was running toward the Police Station.

Michael DiTomasso, 41, of 29 Pear St., Apt. 3, was staying at the hotel with a woman when police came calling. As they spoke with DiTomasso and his friend, the man placed a jacket on a table with hypodermic needle cap on it, according to Officer Scott Breguet's report. Suspecting DiTomasso was trying to hide something, he attempted to place the man in handcuffs. DiTomasso faked compliance then pushed Breguet, breaking free and managing to get out of the hotel room, running through the Woonsocket Motor Lodge's parking lot and into the Woonsocket Harris Public Library lot.

An officer drove across the street from the Woonsocket Police Department at 242 Clinton St, blocking off DiTomasso's escape. DiTomasso turned briefly in the direction of the police station, then dropped to the ground.

DiTomasso was charged with two counts of simple assault and resisting arrest. On the table, with DiTomasso's jacket no longer on it, officers found several empty shredded glassine baggies, spoons, pliers and wrenches.
