Another Trucker Misses Warning Signs for Main Street Rail Bridge

Third truck since December travels low-clearance stretch at its peril.

UPDATE: Woonsocket Police Information Officer Det. Jamie Paone said the driver of the truck was John Bates of Johnston.

There were no injuries from the incident, which involved a truck owned by Transco, Inc., with the trailer registered in Illinois and the cab registered in Indiana.

Bates was cited for failing to observe traffic signals, which carries a $85 fine.

Aug. 8: For those keeping score, the number of trucks stuck under the Main Street Rail Bridge reported by Woonsocket Patch this year just jumped to three.

The latest truck, apparently owned by McLane Food Service Distribution, appears to have struck the bridge with enough force to peel back the top of its trailer like a sardine can at 7:41 a.m. today.

Woonsocket Police Information Officer Det. Jamie Paone has said the bridge catches unwary drivers of large vehicles many times each year. Woonsocket Patch reported on two such incidents in December.

The Woonsocket Patch will update this story as more information becomes available.
