Do I buy in Woonsocket???

So I have been a renter for about 4 years but did grow up here. My girlfriend and I have decided to buy a home. As renting in Woonsocket has been cheap I was looking at house prices and compared to neighboring towns the prices are very fair. After looking at the tax assesment on Zillow though it seems that the property tax is almost the same cost as what my mortgage payment would be. Is this true and if so why are the taxes so high? This is not a very nice city to live in all though some parts are okay. I was just trying to get some insight into owning here. Any pros and cons. I would like to shout out to the home owners, I feel very sorry for you if you are paying this much. Being a renter I guess you just don't realize certain things like property tax. I never would imaging having to pay that much in taxes to live here.
