Paul E. Girard: Korean War Army Vet, New England Pile Retiree

Woonsocket native died Tuesday morning.

 

Paul E. Girard, 80, formerly of Park Ave., Woonsocket, died Tuesday morning at The Friendly Home, according to the Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home.

Paul was the loving husband of Marguerite H. (Poirier) Girard. They were married on February 12, 1955.

Born in Woonsocket, he was a son of the late Albani and Cora (Roy) Girard. He was a resident of the city for most of his life and also lived in Harrisville for several years.

Mr. Girard was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean Era.

Paul was employed at several area textile firms and later worked for New England Pile for many yeas before retiring.

In addition to his wife of 57 years he is survived by a daughter Paula J. Gervais, and her husband Richard, of Pascoag and two grandchildren Bethany and Nicholas Gervais both of Pascoag. He was the brother of the late Lionel and Edgar Girard, Jeannette Patenaude, Orise Girard, and Cecile Chabot. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

His Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday at 10 a.m. in Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church, Park Ave., Woonsocket. Burial with military honors will follow in the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter.

Visiting hours are omitted. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Friendly Home Activities Fund, 303 Rhodes Ave., Woonsocket, RI. 02895. Arrangements are by the Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave., Woonsocket.
