Edgar E. Nadeau: Oceanographer, WWII Vet, Scout Leader, Little League Officer

Edgar E. Nadeau, 85, of Cumberland, died Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at Cortland Place, Greenville, according to Holt Funeral Home.

He was the husband of Vivian T. (Joubert) Nadeau, to whom he was married for 61 years.

Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late Euclide and Zita (Bourre) Nadeau. Edgar was a 1945 graduate of Mt. St. Charles Academy and earned his BS in Chemistry from Boston College in 1951. He was a Navy veteran, serving in WWII. Edgar began his career as an oceanographer in Maryland, was later the head chemist for the Boston Naval Shipyard and retired from Defense Contract Administration Services of Boston in 1983 as a quality assurance specialist.

He was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church, Woonsocket and was a member of its Seniors and Veterans Clubs. Edgar was a member of the YMCA Fitness Club and the American Legion. He held office in various youth organizations including Boy Scouts Troop 6 and the East Woonsocket Little League.

Edgar was a past president of the RI Chapter of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. He was an avid golfer and tennis player, and also enjoyed bowling and traveling with his wife, Vivian.   

His funeral will be held Monday, Aug. 26, 2013 at 9:30 a.m. from the Holt Funeral Home, 510 So. Main St., Woonsocket, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church, 1200 Mendon Rd., Woonsocket. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland. Calling hours are Sunday, August 25, 2013 from 4 -7 p.m.
