Michaud Short Five Signatures, Mayoral Field at Four

Roland Michaud fell five short of the 100 signatures needed to win a spot on the ballot as a mayoral candidate, so this evening's Candidates Night will only feature three of the four remaining people vying for Woonsocket's top office.

Estelle Corriveau, manager at the Woonsocket Board of Canvassers at City Hall, said Michaud collected a total of 95 signatures, all of which were confirmed. Michaud and the other candidates for Mayor had until Sept. 17 to submit their nomination papers, including the signatures.

Since he has not qualified as a candidate, Michaud has been cut from tonight's Candidates Night at Chan's, said MyWoonsocket.com's editor, Lorraine Corey.

Four Mayoral candidates remain: Incumbent Mayor Leo Fontaine, current state Rep. Lisa Baldelli Hunt (D-Dist. 49, Woonsocket), David Fisher, and Michael Moniz. Moniz is not attending the forum.

The forum, sponsored by MyWoonsocket.com and 1380 WNRI, begins at 7 p.m. at the restaurant, where Woonsocket voters will consider candidates for the Mayoral and City Council primary on Oct. 8 and the election on Nov. 5.

Corey and Roger Bouchard will moderate the event. The format: One question — the same question — will be asked of the incumbent City Council candidates. One different question will be asked of the new candidates by the moderator.

Mayoral candidates will each ask a question of opposing candidates on two separate rounds.
