This Weekend: Pawsox Idol, a Free Art Exhibit and Mardi Gras

Pawsox Idol-

The Pawtucket Red Sox will be holding auditions at Lincoln Mall from 12 to 4 p.m. on Saturday for their second annual PawSox Idol. The contest is open to anyone 15 years old and older.  The top singers from the auditions will be invited back to participate in the season long promotion which will run every Friday home game in 2012.

Children's Mardi Gras-

A free children's Mardi Gras celebration will take place starting at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the. The event is co-sponsored by Chapter 2 of Catholic Financial Life and is open to all children ages 4-9. Kids are invited to enjoy a costume contest, dancing, prizes, entertainment, and food and a king and queen will also be chosen. Doors open at 10:30 a.m.

Woonsocket's 18th annual Mardi Gras celebration, sponsored by the Northern RI Council of the Arts will take place on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. at two venues: St. Ann Arts and Cultural Center and. The CYO site will feature Zydeco band of RI's "Slippery Sneakers" and a full Cajun buffet. The St. Ann site will feature the Jeff Gamache orchestra, full buffet, and the unmasking of King Jace XVIII by the 2012 Mardi Gras queen. Shuttle service will be provided to and from both sites and prizes will be awarded for best costume at both locations. Tickets are $25.00 in advance or $30 at the door and can be purchased by calling Lorraine Cloutier at 401-762-9072.

Free Art Debut-

Artist Darrell Crow will be unveil his Colorado Series at an exhibit from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday at . Admission is free and open to the public. Crow has taught over 3,500 classes, and today, has produced over 250 full length 2-hour videos on how to paint landscapes, seascapes, flowers, tall ships, wildlike, people, pets and much more. He has over 1,000 paintings hanging in private collections worldwide. Light fare and cash bar will be available. Visit www.stagerightstudio.org for more upcoming events.

Little League-

Bernon Little League will hold registration for its 2012 season this weekend on Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Jimmy Ray Center on Bourdon Boulevard.

The league provides baseball for children between the ages of 4 and 12 as of May 1. Cost is $40 for the first child in a family, $35 for the second, with a family maximum of $105. Those registering must provide copies of birth certificates and three proofs of residency.
