Woonsocket Scouts Bring in Donations for RI Food Bank

Woonsocket Pack 2 Cub Scouts & Troop 2 Boy Scouts — boys, leaders, and parents — collected more than 150 cases of food Nov. 2 for the RI Food Bank.

The Scouts, chartered from Our Lady Queen of Martyrs on Park Avenue, delivered food collection bags door to door throughout the city Oct. 26 and returned Nov. 2 to pick up the food, which the National Guard picked up and delivered to the RI Community Food Bank.

The Rhode Island Community Food Bank serves more than 65,000 people through its statewide network of emergency food programs. One in three individuals served is a child under the age of 18.

The drive is a long-standing tradition for the Narragansett Council Boy Scouts of America and the largest food drive in New England. Since its inception in 1988, the Narragansett Council has collected more than 7.8 million pounds of food for those less fortunate.
