Senate OKs House $2.5M Supplemental Tax Bill, Contingent On Union Concessions

H6103 returned to House, may be voted on during extended session today.

Hours after Rep. Lisa Baldelli-Hunt (D-Dist. 49) lifted the hold on her $2.5 million Supplemental Tax Bill H6103, the Senate amended it to take effect if Woonsocket realizes $3.7 million in union concessions late last night.

Greg Pare, director of Senate Communications, reported the amendment at about 10 p.m., after the Senate approved the bill and added the contingency. The text reads:

"Such supplemental tax shall be contingent upon the city of Woonsocket's realization of a total amount of no less than three million seven hundred fifty thousand dollars ($3,750,000) in savings resulting from municipal enactment or concessions from collective bargaining agreements with applicable Woonsocket unions and retirees. No tax sale shall be conducted by the city prior to June 15, 2014 for nonpayment of the supplemental tax."

The Senate version of the Supplemental Tax Bill, S820, is dead on the desk.

The Senate approved the amended House Bill, which waits on action from an extended House session today. As with yesterday's Senate calendar, there is no mention of the supplemental tax on today's House calendar

Larry Berman, communications director for House Speaker Gordon Fox, said bills, including H6103, can be added to the calendar throughout the day.
