Cumberland Residents Place High in Spelling Competition

Cumberland residents Sarah Brouillard and Caitlyn Stanford, students at Dayspring Christian Academy of Attleboro, Mass., both produced exceptional performances Friday, Nov. 22, during the 2013-14 Eastern Massachusetts/Rhode Island District Spelling Bee sponsored by the Association of Christian Schools International and held in Swansea, Mass.

The competition attracted participants in grades 5 through 8 from six ACSI-affiliated schools in the district. Qualifying contests were held in each grade, with the top three finishers advancing to the final round.

Brouillard, a seventh-grader, ended third in the Grade 7 qualifying contest, but placed second overall in the final round. Stanford, an eighth-grader, concluded second in the Grade 8 qualifier.
