Driver cautions officer of uncapped needles during search

Winston Calloway, 25, of 112 Farm St., Blackstone was arrested at the Hess station on Social Street on Friday and charged with driving without a license, driving under the influence, a warrant, and two counts of narcotics possession. According to the report by Officer McGourty, Calloway was pulled over after running a stop sign, got out of his vehicle, and began talking very fast and incomprehensibly.

When McGourty asked for his license, Calloway allegedly replied "I don't have a license. I have warrants. I'm going to jail. Can I make a phone call?" Suspicious of drug activity, the officer conducted a search of the vehicle, but not before Calloway warned him to be careful for uncapped needles. Several needles were found in the car including one filled with heroin, along with one suboxone pill.

A search of the vehicle revealed a marijuana grinder, a glass pipe, an air gun magazine and a cane which opened to reveal a 17 and a half inch double-bladed sword beside the driver's seat.  Vitiello told the officer that he used the cane to walk after a leg injury, but Nunnemacher observed the suspect had no noticeable limp and, furthermore, that the cover to the weapon would not stay on leaving the "cane" in two pieces. Vitiello reportedly told the officer that the cane had stopped closing just that day.
