Police Log: Officers Find Pot While Offering Fugitive His Pants
This arrest information was supplied by the Woonsocket Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.
If Ikey Wilson, 27, of 203 Arnold St., Apt. 2, had taken the time to put on some pants before attempting to evade arrest at 10:29 p.m. July 13, he might have chosen duds without a bag of pot in them.
But when police forced open the door to his apartment to make an arrest on six outstanding warrants, they found him in his bedroom, leaning against the door in an attempt to keep the police out, wearing only boxer shorts.
The struggle damaged the bedroom door and ended with Wilson handcuffed. When an officer collected some of his clothes for him to wear to the station, a bag of what was later identified as marijuana was discovered in one pocket, adding possession of marijuana, a felony (based on prior convictions), to what was previously only a series of misdemeanors, along with a charge of resisting arrest.
Police were alerted to Wilson's presence at his home by a caller using the Woonsocket Police Annonymous tip line (401 769-4444), and assembled a team including undercover officers in a perimeter around Willson's apartment building. With officers watching the apartment, a single officer knocked on the front door. An undercover officer watching from the street radioed that he saw Wilson looking out his apartment window, after which the officer knocking called to Wilson to open his door to prevent it from being forced.
Wilson ignored the warning, and the officer forced open the apartment door and began searching the apartment. The undercover officer radioed that Wilson attempted to exit a window but went back inside. That window turned out to be Wilson's bedroom window. When police attempted to enter, Wilson braced himself against the door, ingnoring commands to stop and get down. Officers eventually forced open the door, handcuffed him and made the arrest.

Ahhhh Hello !!! Woonsocket Police ? Attention !!! Marijauna is legal and can't be subject to a felony. Sorry, nice try though. Although, as crooked as they have been lately, I wouldn't doubt they planted it on him. And when getting arrested, they don't give you a choice of what to wear. Misdameanor warrants ? and you kick the door in ? is that legal ? just wondering. to fishy again for the Woonsocket Cadets.

you clearly don't know what you are talking about! It is not legal, it is a misdemeanor under a certain quantity. If you have a medical card you are allowed to possess and/or grow a certain amount at 1 time.
As far as kicking the door in, if there is a person that is known to have warrants inside a building they are allowed to pursue that individual. Go read the laws before you start conjuring up your own false theories

That's why my grandparents always has called them the Keystone cops because everyone who's lived in this city knows how corrupt they are and they are a joke when it comes to policing!!!!! And you are right they have recently passed the law decriminalizing marijuana so good one on WPD to make that one stick!!!!!! And like you I wouldn't be surprised if they planted it on him because I've seen them do that trick before as well when they weren't picking up their hookers!!!!!! Why do you think hookers and drug dealers come here so readily, it's because they know if they share enough with the cops the cops will let them off unless major complaints start coming in then they have to appear to care for our safety!!!! Sorry to the chief but he doesn't have a bunch of saints working for him like he wants to believe!!!!!

Some important info
1. The law only decriminalizes possession of an ounce or less. If he had more than that, it's still a criminal offense.
2. When the legislature passes a law, it is often set to come into effect at a later date. That is the case here.
Possession of less than an ounce of pot in RI will no longer be a criminal offense as of April 13, 2013.
Until then, the police can still arrest you for it.
3. It will still be a civil offense,
and you will have to pay a 150$ fine for possession, and the police are directed to confiscate the marijuana by law.
It just isn't a criminal offense anymore.
This is all on page 3 of the law
http://www.rilin.state.ri.us/BillText12/SenateText12/S2253Aaa.pdf
4. Possession of very small amounts of pot was only a misdemeanor.
If this article is correct, and he's been charged with a felony,
then he may have had more than an ounce on him anyway,
which would still make it a felony, even under the new law.

La Mouffette, Have you ever seen an ounce of weed? I cannot understand why that is the cut-off point. An ounce of weed could almost fill a sandwich bag. That is not a small amount.

They should have used their batons to beat a loud tattoo on that pot head's skull and torso! Then he'd have an excuse for puffing medical marijuana.

haha! Actually, my coworker and I were discussing that just today, John!
I don't smoke, but I do buy things in bulk, and an ounce of a dried herbal substance isn't a tiny amount, it's true!
I have no idea why that's the cut-off point, but an ounce-bag of something like it is a bulky thing to have crammed into your pocket!

William D...... You obviously have a lot to learn brother. The state Senate and House approved the legislation this June, however, it does not go into effect until April 1, 2013. So please stop your ignorant rant as you are only polluting the minds of your local populous.

Hi, everyone - Wilson was in fact charged with a felony. Det. Jamie Paone says the felony charge is based on prior convictions for possession. Remember, arrests and charges are not convictions.

My point is, is that Woonsocket has corruption as with every town that has a Poilce union. Let me ask, would you and a few others randomly picked take a urine test to prove you all are clean from any drug use ? Also would the officers thought to be lying on a case take a polygraph to prove their innocence ? No ? Oh its in the poilce bill of rights that prevents and saves you all from that, and that right there instills corruption.

Yup! after reading this message I sent the editor an email to remove your commenting privileges until you become more informed. You're making statements in which there is no validity and as indicated in my last comment is what makes you ignorant. Or maybe you're just one of those citizens who has an ax to grind with the local police department and will stop at nothing to shed a negative light on them. My only hope is that you never need police assistance.......

It's amazing that the clowns who are always complaining about the police are the ones that keep having run-ins with them. I have lived in Woon. for 42 years and have never had a run in with the police. If you do illegal and shady things, the police won't even bother with you.

Actually RSox that's not true because I've never personally had run ins with them myself other then them harassing me because I work 3rd shift and wait for a friend to pick me up for work since I don't drive!!!!!! I live in one of the shittier parts of town where they flaunt their corruption everyday for anyone to see, they don't even attempt to hide it and if I ever wanted to do my own survaliance I'd be able to prove it but I leave it alone because nothing's going to change because even our own City Hall is too busy being corrupt to really make any changes in this city which is why we are were we are!!!!!!!!

If any of you have specific complaints about alleged police misconduct you should stop hiding behind your patch pen names. 1: report it to police internal affairs 2: (because I know you're going to say they do nothing) report it to the State Police 3: call any local news station (reporters love a good police corruption story) or 3: STFU

Lotus Lily, I seen you say something about the hookers in woonsocket, well thats just another tip off the iceberg if you ask me, they do know who the girls are in the city and whats being done ? absolutely nothing. Its almost they are catering to them. If you pay attention riding in this city, you know who they are too, when you see them and they are Fat, thats because they just got out of jail, and pay attention they lose all that weight in 2 months, and do the same ole things. I know they can do stings to get rid of them, do they ? nope. They have no problem putting a female Officer to catch all the guys who know they can find it here, and arrest the men. Get rid of the girls would be the first thing to do, it sends a message to any would be Hookers wanting to work here. When you ask them why there still here ? they say they have rights, lol thats a joke. Pot is Legal and Prostitution is a Crime Woonsocket Police !!! If you get all the hookers out of here, maybe some of the Pedifiles will go too. Corruption Attracts Corrupted people. We'd be better off having Community Policing.

hey common sense. william is correct in noticing certain situations in this city. Unfortunately i believe I possess lot more knowledge than he does about this . Now you should take your own advice about staying quiet instead making comments that you just did.Facts: prostitution is on about dozen streets now after the city got them off arnold. They usually work more in the day when safer. .Cops allow until 3AM. Sting operations dont work and are nothing but a big show and more overtime for police.Community policing, call the station to let them know, Ive tried, thats a joke. Police serving, can prove one thing, not going to happen. They have no intention of serving, unless there is an absolute law broken, that they can prove. thats the only public service they serve.

William, Sometimes it's better to remain silent and be thought of as a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt...marijuana is still ILLEGAL. You must have an awful lot of free time if you can drive around the city monitoring the weight loss programs utilized by prostitutes...or maybe you have to pay for it and are one of their best customers. If people like you didn't use their services they would ply their trade elsewhere and you could move there and make that city that much dumber...

If I remain silent, Woonsocket residents wont have a clue who to vote for in the next Mayoral Election. After seeing the last few incidents and the results of them tell me there is more than just a currupt Police dept. And you can continue to try and intimidate, it wont work, I am an intimidater as well. I know my rights and this is one of them, Freedom of speech, ya don't like what i'm saying, read another comment, or skip it.

So what are the cops suppose to do? You can't just arrest people for walking around on a street even if they are known to be hookers. Unless you catch them in the act then you have nothing to arrest them for. That's like saying they should arrest someone for doing drugs just because you know they do drugs. Unless they have drugs on them and have a reason to search them, then they can't do anything.

BTW , I was only kidding about the first post i made on this IF it's any of your business . Of course I'd want someone like that off the streets and I'm glad he's getting what he deserves . >The police are doing their jobs to the best of their ability I'm proud of them , well at least most of them .
