Police Log: Man Eats Crack, Arrested For Possession

Man picked up on warrant consumed crack when officer approached.

If there's a manual on ditching illicit drugs, eating them is probably not written in the chapter on crack cocaine, and Jacob Perry, 22, of 84 Kendrick Ave., apt. 2F, could tell you why.

On Oct. 2 at about 6 a.m., officer Jesse Nunnemacher stopped Perry and a friend, Charles Powell, 48, who were walking on River Street headed to Kendrick Avenue. Nunnemacher was in the area due to requests for extra patrols in the area.

After a check with dispatch revealed Perry had an outstanding warrant for his arrest, Nunnemacher arrested him and transported him to the Woonsocket Police Department.

While Perry was being processed, Nunnemacher noticed Perry's body language had become slow and lethargic. The officer asked him what was wrong, and Perry said he had eaten $80 of crack cocaine when he first saw the officer approaching him.

Equipped with this information, Woonsocket Police transported Perry to Landmark Medical Center for treatment. On the way, Perry asked Nunnemacher if he was going to die from eating so much crack. Nunnemacher told him he wouldn't. At the hospital, Nunnemacher searched his clothing while he was being treated, finding two plastic bags of what was later identified as marijuana, 1.3 grams,  and crack cocaine, .4 grams.

Perry was treated and transported back to police headquarters, where he was charged with larceny under $1,500, posession of marijuana and possession of crack.
