Gordon Fox Breaks Silence After Raids by Feds

Authorities have not yet divulged the nature of their probe.

House Speaker Gordon Fox, the target of a federal investigation, broke his silence Saturday following raids on his Providence home and State House office.

Authorities have not yet divulged the nature of the investigation.

WPRI-TV reported that Fox addressed reporters camped outside his home. He declined to talk about the investigation or answer calls for his resignation.

"When it’s appropriate, I’ll talk to all of you,” Fox said.

Investigators raided Fox's home and office Friday morning. That night, lawmakers gathered to figure out a possible successor should Fox leave office.

Fox, a Democrat, is the first openly gay House Speaker in the country.

Earlier this year, Fox was investigated by the state ethics commission for failing to reveal income he earned while doing legal work, according to the Associated Press.
