Chafee knows the numbers - ask him! Oh, that's right, we don't need to ask because we can "Trust" him to do the right thing ...as far as people cheating the system, look at all the single mothers around here. Continually having babies (usually with different daddies) to get that "free check" and benefits is scamming the system. If they put half as much energy into looking for a job as they do getting pregnant they wouldn't need assistance. But why put yourself in a position to have to get up and go to work EVERY day when you can sit around and get money for doing nothing?

The only way to make any changes is to become a RIGHT TO WORK state. Too many in the GA beholding or affiliated with Unions to see that happen any time soon!

I agree! I actually witnessed this conversation between 2 relatives: Girl 1: " I've been looking everywhere, but I can't find a job". Girl 2: Just get pregnant, then you can get a free check every month. That's what I did!".
Girl 1 did exactly that and now gets to sit home and watch Jerry Springer or go to the beach (with Girl 2) while I work to make sure she gets her "free check"!The reason why no one in the legislature will do anything to stop the fraud and misuse is because there is not one adult in the room - no one wants to be the bad guy. There should be stipulations that come with that check - like having to prove that you're actively looking for work (like they make you do at Unemployment) and mandatory monthly drug testing to insure the childen aren't being taken care of by someone hopped up on crack or meth! Put in more stringent rules and adhere to monitoring them. I guarantee you will see alot of people that all opf a sudden decide that they really don't need the aid after all!

Congrats on the new job! It seems like you are one of the few who used the program the way it was intended. Unfortunately, there are too many that would rather live off the system and abuse it. If less people like that were using it and more like you, there'd be enough aid to go around for everyone truly needing it!

But Jerry ... that's not fair! Only those who WORK for a living should be subjected to that!
I have never understood the reasoning behind not drug testing those who CHOOSE to accept government aid. We care so much "about the children" but see no reason to make sure those taking care of them aren't hopped up on coke or meth! What hypocrisy! -

So true - I have relatives who live there and whenever elections come around, they equate who they are voting for, not with the politician's views, but with the meal they were given during his/her campaign! "I'm voting for David Cicillini - he gave us a real good chicken dinner!" Talk about preying on the elderly!

It's ridiculous! If all the people who want to ban them just stop using them, wouldn't there will be less in the world to worry about?
RI is doing sooooo well - aren't you happy to know we have nothing more important to worry about besides "paper or plastic"?

So having nice condos on one side of The Stadium is being held up but yet it's OK for the building on the OTHER side of The Stadium to rent out nasty rooms to crack addicts and the drudge of the city ... yeah, that makes sense. But hey - gotta keep those EBT card carriers happy!
