Packed At The Polls: Eager Voters Kept Canvassers Busy Tuesday

Turnout tally at 48 percent with mail-in ballots still uncounted.

  With mail-in ballots remaining uncounted, the Board of Canvassers reports a modest voter turnout at 11,973 for Election Day Tuesday, about 48 percent of eligible voters. "It was very, very busy," said Board of Canvassers Manager Estelle Corriveau. Lines of unregistered voters crowded City Hall to sign up to vote for president - thanks to a provision under RI law. The voter count was at 90 at 1 p.m. By 7:30 p.m., with only half an hour left to vote, there was still a line out the door at the Board of Canvassers office.
