Woonsocket Hit By Power Outages Overnight, This Morning, Schools Delayed Two Hours

High Wind Warning in effect through 10 a.m.

  UPDATE - 3:25 p.m.: National Grid reports most customers who lost power this morning now have their service restored. Only about 50 locations in scattered areas of the city are experiencing outages at the moment, according to National Grid's Power Outage Map.  Due to continuing wind gusts, the utility notes some areas that have had service restored may lose power again as the weather continues to cause damage.  Customers can report outages and check real-time outage information on the Outage Central page at www.nationalgrid.com. UPDATE - 12:10 p.m.: Beacon Charter High School will close early today at 1 p.m. due to lack of power. National Grid reports 3,000 people in the area remain without power. Oops, just realized my typo... obviously, I meant carbon MONoxide, not Dioxide! And was talking about the problem of people running generators in dense neighbourhoods of triple deckers. It would be virtually impossible for everyone to follow the safe use guidelines for generators (must be run a min. of 20 feet from a home, etc.) in most of Woonsocket.   more ›
