Grand Jury Indicts Woonsocket Man on Child Molestation Charge

An indictment, information, or complaint is merely an allegation. The U.S. Constitution guarantees that a defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

The Providence County Grand Jury reported out an indictment Monday charging Jonathan Ortiz, 28 of 112 Coe St., Woonsocket, with one count of first degree child molestation and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. It is alleged that on or about dates between Sept. 1, 2011 and March 18, 2012, Ortiz molested a child under the age of 14, with the molestation being in the first degree. It is further alleged that Ortiz knowingly contributed to the delinquency of a minor. The alleged events took place in Woonsocket, and the Woonsocket Police conducted the investigation. Ortiz is scheduled to be arraigned in Providence County Superior Court on May 22.

Man Arrested on Child Abuse Charges Also Carrying Oxycontin

The following arrest information was provided by the Woonsocket Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

On April 13, at about 1:11 a.m., Officer James Cote was patrolling the parking lot of RI Dolls near closing time to ensure there would be no problems, when he noticed a silver Volvo registered to Dennis J. Lamoreaux, 32, of 44 Oak St., Apt. 1st, wanted for two counts of child abuse. The child abuse charges stemmed from a Feb. 25 incident. Cote arrested Lamoreaux and transported him back to the Woonsocket Police Department, where a search revealed a small 40 mg Oxycontin pill, valued at $20, according to Cote's report. Lamoreaux told Cote he had purchased the pill from 'someone else," Cote said. Lamoreaux was charged with felony possession of illegal narcotics, added to the child abuse charges.
