Woonsocket To Meet The Candidates Aug. 28: What Would You Ask?

Most candidates running for the General Assembly have accepted an invitation to participate in the Aug. 28 Meet the Candidates forum sponsored by MyWoonsocket.com and 1380 WNRI. Only one candidate won't make it. Michael Moniz, an independent challenging the winner of the Sept. 11 primary for Dist. 49, will be out of town. The free, open-to-the-public event will be held at Chan's Fine Oriental Dining, 267 Main St., 7 p.m. A three-member panel of local news reporters will question the candidates: Russ Olivo of The Woonsocket Call, Sandy Phaneuf of the Valley Breeze and Rob Borkowski of the Woonsocket Patch. I would point out that it very easy and neccessary to attack pension reform in the last session, but who will have the courage to take on a much larger problem; entitlement reform including excessive social programs, welfare programs that sustain generation after generation of people who have no desire to help themselves (not the working poor), etc. The Human Services portion of the state budget … more ›
