Fair weather and a new course greet throngs of joggers, walkers.
Perfect running weather and a sunny sky greeted thousands of runners - more than 4,400 - lined up in front of the State House in downtown Providence Sunday morning for the CVS Caremark Downtown 5K. Eighty-five Woonsocket runners jockeyed for position among the throngs running and walking the 5K course. City runners' times varied from the 20-minute to one-hour range. The fastest Woonsocket runner in the men's division was William Ferullo with a time of 00:22:11. The fastest city runner in the women's division was Kelly Ryan with time of 00:22:38. Locals Christopher Hoard and Meghan T. MacDonald finish run under grueling conditions.
Despite a heat advisory issued for the area yesterday, Woonsocket locals Christopher R. Hoard, 38 (#24109) and Meghan T. MacDonald, 36 (#21892) finished the Boston Marathon. The Boston Athletic Association (BAA) issued an email statement on Saturday morning offering a deferment to any official runner who would like to postpone his or her participation until 2013. Though 4,290 other runners did decide to run another day, Hoard and MacDonald didn't take them up on the offer. Hoard finished with a net time of 04:43:44.
