Vigilant public servant leads officers to arrest man for taking neighbor's mail.
An observant letter carrier foiled one man's attempt to swipe his neighbor's mail last week. On May 5 at 2:17 p.m., officers arrested John Raymond Cote, 26, of 296 Diamond Hill Road, apt. 2, for stealing a certified mail package, a white box (later discovered to have contained a cell phone and charger) intended for his neighbor. Cote attempted to blame the theft on another man visiting his home, but officers apprehended Cote instead. When patrol officer Anthony Conetta Jr. arrived at 294 Diamond Hill Road in response to a report of a theft of a certified mail package by letter carrier Jamie Nunes, she told him she'd seen Cote take a package she'd just delivered to another resident of the apartment building. She said she suspected Cote was …

On April 23, Officer Joseph Zinni responded to the intersection of John A. Cummings Way and Clinton Street for a motor vehicle accident with no injuries. Upon arriving, Zinni spoke with David Bouvier and Jessica Rageoutte, drivers who said each of their cars were hit by the same vehicle. Bouvier told the officer that a Silver Toyota Solara had struck the rear of his green Jeep at the intersection of Truman Drive, then left the scene and, as he was watching, also hit the rear of Rageoutte’s blue Dodge before stopping. Zinni next spoke with the offending driver, who identified himself as Jose Mojica. During their conversation, out of the blue, the driver told Zinni, “I got some warrants but it’s your job to figure out my name.” That …

Narragansett police put the 34-year-old man behind bars following a disturbance at a local bar where he reportedly refused to pay his tab. Back at headquarters, the man allegedly continued to misbehave once in his cellblock. According to police, the man began yelling and according to another prisoner, head-butted the concrete wall and literally knocked himself out. Rescue crews checked the man who appeared to be okay. He refused treatment. It’s Potty Time at the Playground Two North Kingstown girls looking for some quality time at the playground over April vacation found a special “present’ underneath a slide. A Woonsocket teen found himself under arrest after he persistently taunted officers with obnoxious remarks while they conducted an investigation. The 14-year-old boy, whose name was not released, faces charges of obstructing an officer in performance of his duties and use of tobacco by a minor. Shortly after 7 p.m. April 16, police went to Second Avenue to assist EMTs who were taking a nine-month-old boy to Hasbro Children's Hospital in Providence. The infant had tumbled out of a stroller and hit his head on concrete stairs. While police questioned neighbors as to what happened, two 14-year-old boys arrived on the scene and began calling the officers "cookie monsters." When Officer Christopher Bouvier asked the two boys if they saw what…

Officers arrested a local man Monday afternoon while investigating a recent rash calls to the police station reporting non-existent crimes and emergencies. Michael Rigney, 27, of 279 Main St., faces a charge of providing false information to a 911 operator. The hoax calls, which took place last month, sent officers to several parts of town to stop supposed crimes in progress or to help people in distress. In one case, officers went to a South Main Street store after a caller said he saw someone toss a handgun into a Dumpster. The officers found no gun in the area and no one waiting at the scene. Minutes later the same person called the station dispatcher again, and said he'd meet the officers in the parking lot at Olly's Pizza. Police …

When police knocked on Jason D. Depot's door and he told them "I know what you're here for," he was not displaying uncanny psychic powers. Earlier in the day he'd argued with his ex-girlfriend and some of her relatives, and before the spat was over, he allegedly pulled a gun. Depot, 20, of 182 Cumberland St., faces charges of disorderly conduct and felony assault. The investigation began Friday morning, when police responded to reports of a disturbance at Burnside Manner Apartments. A young woman told them Depot had come to the apartment to pick up their young son for a visit. Before the child left, he kissed goodbye to two men in the apartment. Depot asked who the men were.
