Winter Storm Warning for Woonsocket Points to Messy Tuesday Morning Commute

More snow forecast just before spring's official start.

  UPDATE - Tuesday, 8:36 a.m. : Head Start, pre-K open regular time. Childcare open at 8 a.m. UPDATE - Tuesday, 5:45 a.m. : Woonsocket Head Start, Day Care delayed one hour. Head Start, pre-K open. Woonsocket Gets Wind Advisory Added To Storm Warning

National Weather Service warns of northeast winds of 20-30 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph.

  The snow predicted for tonight's commute didn't materialize, but high winds did begin racing through Woonsocket this afternoon, prompting the National Weather Service to add a wind advisory for the area to its Winter Storm Warning. Throughout the city, strong winds flapped flags and tousled trees as a snowstorm expected to last into Friday began to move into the area. The NWS wind advisory warns of northeast winds of 20-30 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph from today through Friday morning. The Winter Storm Warning remains in effect through 1 p.m. Friday. Snow is still expected tonight, but at accumulations of less than half an inch Snow will start to fall steadily by morning and continue to throughout the day.  By Thursday night, north winds…

Predicted Snowfall Hiked For Woonsocket

Weather Service warns drivers off roads as storm intensifies.

  The National Weather Service has upgraded its Winter Storm Watch for the area to a Winter Storm Warning, adding a Wind Advisory, Hazardous Weather Outlook and Special Weather Statement, the last warning against travel tonight. The NWS reports snow will fall tonight at rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour. Rhode Island is expected to get 4 to 8 inches, but a swath of the state and eastern Massachusetts - near Woonsocket - is expected to get 6 to 12 inches. By about 8:42 p.m., Woonsocket Patch reader Yvette Ayotte reported there were already about six inches fallen in the city.
