Landmark Lauds Volunteers during National Volunteer Week

Hospital hosted appreciation breakfast on Tuesday, April 23.

  Landmark Medical Center held a volunteer appreciation breakfast on Tuesday, April 23 to thank the hundreds of volunteers at Landmark and the Rehabilitation Hospital of Rhode Island, as part of National Volunteer Week. This year’s theme was “You brighten the days of others being the great volunteer you are. Please know that in the eyes of many - you are a star!” In 2012, 233 volunteers, including students, adults and Eucharistic ministers, logged in over 27,000 hours at Landmark. Several volunteers have reached service milestones. Madeleine Lange and Paul Tardif have reached 100 hours. Lou Dusablon, Donna Finlay and Carolyn Vanasse: 500. Team Hasbro Prepares More Than 25,000 Gifts For Kids In Need At Woonsocket Site

Volunteers marshal toys, games at city warehouse.

  To ensure a bright holiday for Rhode Island children in need, about 25 employee volunteers from Hasbro sorted and prepared more than 25,000 toys and games at RICCA’s warehouse in Woonsocket, 1265 Mendon Road. The gifts will be distributed to Rhode Island Community Action Association(RICAA) agencies across the state. The children who will benefit from the initiative are involved with or receive assistance from the Rhode Island Department of Human Services or the Rhode Island Department of Children, Youth & Families. “Team Hasbro” volunteers prepared the toys and games for distribution based on lists provided by each agency location statewide. Through its Team Hasbro volunteer program, Hasbro gives its employees four hours of paid time off…

Woonsocket's Harris School Preps New Playground

Volunteers gathered at 6 a.m. this morning to spread wood chips for newly installed play space.

There was no shortage of elbow grease at the new playground taking shape behind Harris Elementary School this morning, where dogged volunteers bent backs and shovels to to spread 100 cubic yards of wood chips. Three kids, Emma Costa, 5, Jade Kidwell, 8 and Lorelei Tillson, 8, weren't waiting for the finishing touches on the new playground equipment, one section for K-2nd grade and one for grades 3-5. The trio climbed the green stairs many times for a first crack at the slides. "It's cool. I kind of like it," said Tillson. City Woman Volunteers At Providence Middle School

Laurie Smith joined more than 320 people at Roger Williams Middle School.

On Friday, Aug. 3, Woonsocket resident Laurie Smith joined Providence Mayor Angel Taveras and more than 320 volunteers to transform Roger Williams Middle School in Providence - just in time for the start of the school year. Taveras joined employee volunteers from Fidelity Investments and Serve Rhode Island, a HandsOn Netwrok local action center, in the third annual Transformation Day at his alma mater, Roger Williams Middle School. Volunteers completed close to 1,900 hours of service during this day-long effort, including landscaping, carpentry, painting, and other repairs to improve the overall physical environment of the school.
