What It's About: Today is Thanksgiving Day in the United States, the 149th year that it's been celebrated as a national holiday. President Abraham Lincoln started the official holiday in 1863, though the tradition of the Thanksgiving feast is traced to 1621 in Plymouth, MA. Trash and recycling pickup will be delayed one day, with Thursday's collection moved to Friday, and Friday's pickup set for Saturday.  Yard waste - DPW's Mike Debroisse says the department is still catching up on yard waste pickup, which is about one day behind. Villa Novans Facing Cumberland Thanksgiving Morning

Cumberland won last year 35 - 6, breaking Woonsocket's four-year streak.

Woonsocket (7-2, 5-2 Division II-A) takes on Cumberland (8-1, 7-0 Division II-B) 10 a.m. Thanksgiving at Tucker Field, although both teams might be eschewing the traditional rivalry a bit for tactical reasons. Both teams remain alive in the Division II playoffs, and they’re both favored against their respective opponents, Central (4-5, 4-3 Division II-B) and West Warwick (7-3, 4-3 Division II-B). Cumberland is the top-seed in the playoffs after Central upset Johnston 21-20 in overtime in the opening round. Woonsocket beat St. Ray’s 29-28 in overtime. If both teams win their playoff games on Nov. 27, then a Thanksgiving rematch will occur quickly, at the Division II Super Bowl. Therefore, it’ll be interesting to see how hard the two teams…

Thanksgiving Day game goes to the Cumberland Clippers

Cumberland Clippers defeat Woonsocket Villa Novans 35 to 6.

The Cumberland High School Clippers once again took home the yearly Thanksgiving game trophy after dominating the Woonsocket Villa Novans. After taking a four touchdown lead in the first quarter alone, the Clippers' defense kept the struggling home team deep within their own endzone for the entirety of the first half, earning themselves a massive lead of 34 to 0 before halftime. Once they regained the field, the Villa Novans returned with renewed vigor, surrendering only a 1 point safety. However, no matter how Woonsocket dominated the ball in the final half, they still struggled against the Clippers' defense. North Kingstown Rocks Out For Food Pantry

The Ten Rod Ramblers rocked out for a good cause.

The sounds of Bob Dylan, Neil Young and others filled the halls of Beechwood Center Sunday for a "folk rockin' concert" to benefit the North Kingstown Food Pantry. The Ten Rod Ramblers, a local folk rock band fronted by North Kingstown's superintendent of schools Dr. Phil Auger, provided musical entertainment as locals danced and toe-tapped the afternoon away. In all, the first-year fundraiser netted $500 in donations and a truckload of food for the pantry. It all started when North Kingstown Town Councilman Charles Brennan received word from the town manager that the bandstand by the town beach was nearing completion. Looking to give the bandstand an autumn kick-off, Brennan began to organize a benefit concert for the food pantry. …
