Health Department OKs Hold On Dropping Landmark From Blue Cross Network

Department grants request after BCBSRI agreed to tell physicians with admitting privileges only at Landmark that they wouldn't be penalized.

  The RI Department of Health has granted Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Rhode Island’s (BCBSRI) request to suspend the process to remove Landmark Hospital from its coverage network. The OK came with a caveat, though: First, Blue Cross had to agree to tell physicians with admitting privileges only at Landmark that they wouldn't be penalized. The company had notified physicians in July that it would require them to seek admitting privileges at another participating hospital. “HEALTH recognized the difficult position that Landmark physicians faced in this situation,” said Michael Fine, MD, director of the RI Department of Health. “We requested that Blue Cross notify physicians that they are not required to have admitting privileges at a Blue …

Landmark Announces Supreme Court OK For Deal Extending Blue Cross Coverage

Deal keeps Landmark in Blue Cross network for three months after sale to Steward.

  Supreme Court Judge Michael Silverstein has approved a deal keeping Landmark Medical Center and Rehabilitation Hospital of Rhode Island within the Blue Cross Blue Shield netork.  "Today Supreme Court Judge Michael Silverstein approved a memorandum of understanding between Landmark Medical Center and Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island to extend the previous provider agreement between both parties, making Landmark and the RehabilitationHospital of Rhode Island once again in-network with Blue Cross," read a release from Landmark distributed at about 5:15 p.m. today. “We want to get the word out to local residents who rely on Landmark Medical Center that Landmark is once again officially considered in-network for all Blue Cross …

Mayor Asks AG To Investigate Blue Cross Reimbursement Rate Negotiations With Landmark

Fontaine: Insurer using market dominance to bully hospital out of existence.

  Mayor Leo Fontaine has added his voice to those calling for fair reimbursement rates from Blue Cross Blue Shield RI for Landmark Medical Center, asking Attorney General Peter Kilmartin to review the now-stalled negotiations. Fontaine said he's asked Kilmartin to investigate whether the insurer has violated anti-trust law. Health Department OKs Landmark Sale To Steward

Decision lists 16 conditions, purchase waits on AG's approval.

  The RI Department of Health has approved the sale of Landmark Medical Center to Steward Health Care, listing 16 conditions. The Providence Business News reports the center will be renamed Blackstone Medical Center, incorporated in Delaware. The Department of Health approved both the Change In Effective Control application, which was recommended for approval earlier this month by the Health Services Council, and the Hospital Conversions application.
