Woonsocket Police Find Trio Near Smashed Stadium Windows, Arrest Two

Damage to theatre May 30 estimated at $2,300.

  Woonsocket Police Officer Andrew Girard found three men, a red Kia, a baseball bat and three large, broken glass windows when he responded to 28 Monument Square outside Stadium Theatre March 30 at 4:30 a.m., for a report of a disturbance. One of the men near the Kia, which was parked in the middle of the street, was bleeding from his face. All three were arguing when police arrived, according to Girard's report.  Girard spoke with Jarod Hamel, 19, of 120 Lucille St., Woonsocket, who said he had parked the Kia in the center of the street to attempt to get dirt out of his shoes. Eighty-fifth Festival of the Stars Coming April 17-19

Annual celebration of theatre education hosted at Stadium Theatre, Beacon Charter School.

  New England Drama Festival 2013 - Festival of the Stars will take place at the historic Stadium Theatre for the Performing Arts hosted by Beacon Charter School for the Arts and the Rhode Island Theatre Education Association on April 17, 18, & 19, 2013. This is the 85th annual festival which started in RI in 1928. Hosted originally in Pawtucket and having been primarily Rhode Island (with only two representatives from Massachusetts), the festival has expanded to all six New England States under the guidance of the New England Drama Council.   The festival is about celebrating theatre education in New England. Schools will showcase their work to each other throughout the three days, but will also participate in educational workshops  from …

Stadium Theatre Performance Among Tales Told In '41' Documentary Tonight

PBS to air film on Nick O'Neill's life and signs of hope after his death in the Station Nightclub Fire.

  Today, on the 10th anniversary of The Station nightclub fire, RI PBS will air "41", a documentary about Nick O'Neill, the youngest victim, told in part at Stadium Theatre. The tragedy caused by a pyrotechnic-triggered fire in 2003 lingers in the hearts of many Rhode Islanders. It killed 100 people, including Nick, and injured many more. '41' tells the story of Nick's prolific life, and the signs of hope experienced by family, friends and strangers after his death, including during a performance of his one-act play, "They Walk Among Us," at Stadium Theatre the year after the fire. The play, written a year before O'Neil's death, is about teenagers who have died and become angels, one of them based on Nick himself, according to 41themovie.…

NEA Chairman, RI Senators, Officials Tour Woonsocket

Walking tour showcases city's worthiness for National Endowment of the Arts grant.

  Rocco Landesman, Chairman for The National Endowment for the Arts, spent about two hours touring Woonsocket from RiverzEdge to the Stadium Theatre today. Joining him were Mayor Leo Fontaine, Sen. Jack Reed (D-RI), Economic Development Director Matt Wojcik and City Councilor Bob Moreau. Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), joined the group later near City Hall. Landesman came to Woonsocket at Reed's invitation. The RI Senator oversees federal arts funding as the Chairman of the Appropriations Subcommittee on the Interior, including the NEA’s annual budget of about $146 million. Woonsocket is seeking to strengthen its creative community and is applying for a $100,000 federal NEA “Our Town” grant.  Landesman created the grants, which offer …
