Shop Locally in Woonsocket Today During Small Business Saturday

Start your holiday shopping at locally owned stores during Small Business Saturday.

Today is Small Business Saturday, two days after Thanksgiving — a day for everyone to support the small businesses that their community thrives on. American Express founded the day in 2010 to help small businesses get exposure during the holiday season, when they might be otherwise overlooked. With retailers buzzing around the holidays, it is important to support local small businesses that rely on their neighbors in order to continue prospering and building the local economy in Woonsocket.  Jeanne Pepin Budnick, chairperson of  the Blackstone Valley Independent Business Alliance, which is partnering with the Northern RI Chamber of Commerce to promote Small Business Saturday, said the day is a national focus on their year-round effort to …

Ocean Cafe To Serve 200 Free Thanksgiving Meals

Restaurant will serve meals gratis 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

If you're in a spot finding food this Thanksgiving, Ocean Cafe has got you covered.  The quaint corner diner located on the corner building at 144 North Main St. across from Shaw's Meat Market will offer its five tables to all comers, up to 200 of them, from 11 a.m. till 2 p.m. Thursday.  "This is the second year I'm doing it," said Jose Mendosa, the restaurant's owner. Last year, they served about 100 meals, and are prepared to serve double that number. If more than that show up, Medosa said, he'll be out of food, unfortunately, but next year might be even bigger. Donut X-press To Reopen Next Month

Donut shop closed by fryolator fire to reopen, return to 24/7 service.

Donut Xpress, closed for repairs since a fryolator fire Sept. 29, will reopen in December with new countertops and a return to 24 hour, seven days a week hours. "We plan on being open for Christmas," said owner John Guerin. He said that the fire required them to replace equipment and make repairs, so he took advantage of the downtime to make some changes he's been thinking about but couldn't manage while the 17 Front St. doughnut shop was open. Among the changes, new countertops, a new look and at least two new faces - the 24/7hours will require hiring two new people, Geurin said. He said he hasn't kept the shop open around the clock for about two years, since the recession began. "That was when the economy was slow, but things are …

After what I heard Papa Johns said about health care and his employees I do not think I will ever buy from a big chain again. Lets keep it local and support our city's businesses! Good luck with your opening.   more ›
