The North American Aerospace Defense Command has a website that now offers a Santa tracker mobile app to follow the jolly man's magical flight.
There's a supernatural gift-giver cruising through North American airspace tonight - who do you turn to to keep tabs on him? NORAD. Thanks to the folks behind the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) Website, families worldwide can now follow Santa's Christmas journey in real time. NORAD, charged with, "ensuring air sovereignty and air defense of the airspace of Canada and the United States,” according to their web site, has been tracking Old Saint Nick for the last 50 years. In 1955, according to the site's about us page, a Sears Roebuck ad for kids to call Santa misprinted the number, sending them instead to the Continental Air Defense Command (CONAD). St. Nick appearing at Santa House during select evenings.
Starting tonight, Santa will be making a few evening appearances between now and Dec. 22, thanks to the hard work of local volunteers. Linda Plays at Mayor Leo Fontaine's office said there are a lot of families who take advantage of the opportunity to get their kids some face time with St. Nick without leaving the city. "We actually get a lot of calls from people who can't go to the malls," Plays said.
