Roger Williams Students Say Main Street Needs More Residents, Groceries, Management

Study of Woonsocket, interviews lead to recommendation for Main Street Approach.

  Transforming Woonsocket's sporadically vacant, dilapidated and economically challenged Main Street to a vibrant cultural and business center requires more residents, teamwork, organization and a full-time manager. Those suggestions were part of the presentation Roger Williams University Professor Jeremy Wells and five of his graduate program in historic preservation students noted in their recommendation for Woonsocket to adopt the National Trust for Historic Preservation's Main Street Approach Monday night at the Museum of Work and Culture. I get your point regarding certain structures and there comes a time (usually the result of neglect and lack of investment) that buildings must come down. Unfortunately, I think the historic value of the downtown area is one of the area's strongest attributes. Roger Williams Professor, Students To Present Main Street Plan Tonight

Presentation of "Main Street Approach" held at 6:30 p.m. at Museum of Work and Culture.

  Roger Williams University Professor Jeremy Wells and his students will make their case for using the National Trust for Historic Preservation's Main Street Approach in Woonsocket tonight, 6:30 p.m. at the Museum of Work and Culture.   Wells and his students, who have been studying the downtown Woonsocket/Main Street area, chose the Main Street Approach, "...because no other downtown revitalization approach has such a long track record of success, information  and support," Wells wrote in a recent release. Roger Williams' assistance comes via a pilot program from the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation (RIEDC) marshaling the university's Community Partnerships Center on the city's languishing downtown center. Roger Williams University Names Locals To Dean's List

Three city scholars honored for Fall semester.

  The following local residents are among those to be named to the Roger Williams University Dean's List for the Fall 2012 semester: Full-time students who complete 12 or more credits per semester and earn a GPA of 3.4 or higher are placed on the Dean's List that semester. Woonsocket, Roger Williams University To Focus Students On Reviving Main Street

RIEDC pilot program creates courses in revitalizing urban communities.

  If you like to brag you learned on the streets in Woonsocket, you're about to share that distinction with students at Roger Williams University. The city, Main Street in particular, will soon be the classroom for the university's students thanks to a pilot program from the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation (RIEDC) marshaling the university's Community Partnerships Center on the city's languishing downtown center.  Gov. Woonsocket Scholars Named To Roger Williams Deans List

Local scholars honored for academic achievement.

  Thuy-Diem Nguyen  and Sergio Pratt of Woonsocket are among those named to the Roger Williams University Dean's List for the Spring 2012 semester. Full-time students who complete 12 or more credits per semester and earn a GPA of 3.4 or higher are placed on the Dean's List that semester. Nguyen is a Visual Arts major. Pratt is a Criminal Justice major.
