Riverzedge, Blackstone River Watershed Council War On Japanese Knotweed

Organizations joining to improve Woonsocket need your help.

It looks a lot like bamboo, but Japanese knotweed is a highly invasive plant that's taking over our riverbanks and creeping into peoples' yards, choking out their grass - even the smallest fragment of a root can re-grow a whole plant making it difficult to get rid of even for the pros. Stormwater is another threat to the health of Woonsocket. You might wonder how something as natural as rainfall can pollute our waterways and damage our community, but think of all the things that water could pick up on the way to the river, the oil from your driveway, improperly stored chemicals, even trash.  All of this has made the Blackstone River too polluted to swim in and unhealthy to fish from.  It's up to area residents to change this. RiverzEdge Artists Create Blacktop Games For Bernon Heights Schoolyard

Organization delivered on PTO request this summer.

When the students at Bernon Heights Elementary School return in a few weeks, they are in for a colorful surprise. Youth artists at RiverzEdge Arts Project have spent the last month working on interactive activities that have been painted onto the blacktop of the playground area of the school. Earlier this spring, members of the Bernon Heights PTO approached RiverzEdge with the idea of creating something on the playground for the students.  The PTO wanted to give the students something to do at recess. Their idea was to re-create a map of the United States that used to be on the playground, along with other activities that RiverzEdge participants could design. From there, RiverzEdge designed other activities and went to work on the …
