The Joint Commission on Shared Municipal Services has appointed two advisory committees to support its first steps toward helping cities and towns cut costs by working together to provide municipal services. The commission, which is co-chaired by Sen. Louis P. DiPalma (D-Dist.12, Middletown, Newport, Little Compton, Tiverton) and Rep. Robert D. Olly's Pizza offers discount pizza, hospitality to group.
Monte Calvario Church, located on North Main Street, has organized a weekly street cleanup effort by their young members. Under the direction of Stephanie Ortega, about 13 members of the church have met on Saturday mornings since the start of the summer, cleaning several streets each week. When Rep. Bob Phillips (D-Dist. 51) was made aware of this valuable community service, he offered to sponsor a pizza party for those involved as a reward and in recognition of their efforts. The party was held at Olly's Pizza on Oct. 5, with owner Peter Vosdagalis graciously offering special pricing and cheerfully serving the group, which has named itself "Team Clean." The group will continue their efforts every other week during the school year. "This …
