Cumberland native the Sole Rhode Islander Admitted to Dana Farber Harvard CURE summer program.
Kristen Rodrigues of MSC’s Class of 2014, was the only student in Rhode Island to be accepted into the 2013 Dana Faber Harvard Cancer CURE (Continuing Umbrella of Research Experiences) Summer Program. Kristen will be commuting to this 8-week program, which lasts from June 24-Aug. 16, from her home in Cumberland. During her 35-40 hour work week, she will be receiving hands-on experience in a cancer research. The mission of the CURE program is to put high school and college students in real cancer research environments and introduce them to the field. The ultimate goal is to encourage students to pursue future careers in the biosciences (especially in cancer research) and to give practical meaning to their academic course work. Kristen’s …

Eleven students wowed judges with their technical and scientific prowess.
Mount St. Charles Academy participants earned a few awards at the 2013 RI State Science and Engineering Fair held Saturday, March 16 at CCRI in Warwick. The awards were presented at a ceremony at CCRI on Wednesday, March 20. Rhode Island State Science Fair Awards First Grant – Cristina DeOliveira – Best of Fair Nominee Darin St. Sauveur DeOliveira also received the Naval Science Award, the Northeast Food Technologists 3rdplace, a URI $1,000 scholarship and the US Army Physical Science Award. Proceeds will aid academy's sister school in Africa.
Mount Saint Charles Academy invites the public to the Dining for Dollars Fundraiser on Wednesday, March 20 from 4-10 p.m. at the Bertucci's of North Attleboro in the Emerald Square Mall. If a guest dines in, carries out, or gets delivery, Bertucci's will donate 15 percent of what is spent back to Mount for the school’s student run Mission Drive. All guests need to do is present a flyer to the restaurant which can be downloaded onwww.mountsaintcharles.org. Bertucci's of North Attleboro is the ONLY participating location. No other location will honor the flyer. All of the Mission Drive proceeds are given to Mount’s sister school, The Shitima School, located in central Africa in the very poor city of Kabwe, Zambia. Mount Students questions will be taken on the 'Go Ask Your Father Show'.
In celebration of Relevant Radio® 550 AM’s one-year anniversary, the Go Ask Your Father Show™ is coming to Mount St. Charles Academy and broadcasting live from MSC’s Chapel Hall. Three members of the Mount Saint Charles community are receiving national awards from the Diocese of Providence’s Office of Catholic Youth Ministry. Richard Lawrence, MSC Athletic Director, and Br. Clifford King, MSC Religious Studies Department Chair, will both be receiving The Companions on the Journey Award. In addition, Kaitlyn Williams, a senior at Mount, will be receiving The St. Timothy Award. Stadium Theatre Event will showcase 90 student musicians.
Jazz band students from Mount Saint Charles Academy are tuning up their swing charts for the 17th Annual Blackstone Valley Jazz Festival at Stadium Theatre on Thursday, Feb. 14 at 7pm. In addition to the MSC jazz band, the Blackstone Valley Jazz Festival will display the high-energy sounds of jazz bands from Blackstone-Millville Regional High School, North Smithfield High School, and Woonsocket High School. Approximately 90 students will perform under the bright lights of the historic Stadium Theatre. The Blackstone Valley Jazz Festival is a unique collaborative presentation by our local high schools’ music departments. Student Signs National Letter of Intent.
Matthew Gilson of Cumberland, a senior at Mount Saint Charles Academy, signed his National Letter of Intent to attend Assumption College and play soccer. With his parents, Karen and George Gilson, by his side, Matthew signed his letter at Mount this week. While at Mount Saint Charles, Gilson served as co-captain of his soccer team, was named MVP of the 2012 season, was First Team All-Division, and was also a nominee for the Rhode Island Interscholastic League’s Student of the Month honor for the northern region. Junior High Basketball Team aids in serving those in need in Woonsocket.
Mount St. Charles' Junior High Boys’ Basketball Team recently had the privilege of helping out Emmanual Church in Cumberland with its monthly Mobile Loaves and Fishes Ministry. Coach Doug Allen attends Emmanual and had participated in a previous MLF run and thought this would be a great opportunity for the kids to serve those less fortunate. "It is an exciting new ministry in Rhode Island and I especially like that Emmanual serves those in need in Woonsocket," said Allen. "We collect clothes and food during the course of the month and the boys got to use their strength and conditioning lugging clothes and boxes of provisions back and forth to the truck from the church storage.
