Mount's Rodrigues To Spend Summer Researching Cancer Cure

Cumberland native the Sole Rhode Islander Admitted to Dana Farber Harvard CURE summer program.

Kristen Rodrigues of MSC’s Class of 2014, was the only student in Rhode Island to be accepted into the 2013 Dana Faber Harvard Cancer CURE (Continuing Umbrella of Research Experiences) Summer Program. Kristen will be commuting to this 8-week program, which lasts from June 24-Aug. 16, from her home in Cumberland. During her 35-40 hour work week, she will be receiving hands-on experience in a cancer research. The mission of the CURE program is to put high school and college students in real cancer research environments and introduce them to the field. The ultimate goal is to encourage students to pursue future careers in the biosciences (especially in cancer research) and to give practical meaning to their academic course work. Kristen’s …

Mount Host To 24 International Students

Pupils from abroad hail from Vietnam, China, and South Korea.

  Currently, Mount Saint Charles Academy has 24 international students enrolled from three different countries: Vietnam, China, and South Korea. The program that these students are involved in is not an exchange program, however. They came to Mount from their home countries to stay in the United States, graduate from MSC, and move on to an American University. Mount Saint Charles makes this opportunity possible by working with two different agencies that help international students find American schools to attend. This is a full immersion program; Mount does not have ESL.  Since the international students are here because they want to get an American education and develop exceptional English skills, they do not have a special program of …

I personally don't approve of letting these students,coming to Us,to go to our schools,when their ancestors,were fighting,our young men,and killing our young innocent guys in wars,now it's ok for them to come here to get a education,why not help students in America,who would probably love to attend the Mount and go to College,why help foreigners,especially in those countries? they proabably sure …   more ›

PHOTOS: 'Lessons & Carols' Service Fills Precious Blood Church

Annual concert celebrated 13th year Dec. 2.

  On Sunday, Dec. 2, Mount Saint Charles Academy presented “Lessons & Carols” at Precious Blood Church. This Advent service of prayer and song featured Mount’s band, chorus, handbell choir, and dance students as well as the faculty choir. “Lessons & Carols” has become a tradition that has filled the church with more than 150 participants and an audience of 1,000 people. Mount’s very first “Lessons & Carols” was held in 1999 at Our Lady of Victories.  It has also been held at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs, and at Mount. Since 2006, “Lessons & Carols” has been held at Precious Blood Church.  This year’s event featured a variety of music for the season as well as two special pieces that have been commissioned in past years specifically for “…
