Police Make Second Arrest In Sept. 22 Assault

Man turned himself in after learning of police warrant.

Derek Maguire, 27, of 427 Front St., turned himself in to Woonsocket Police Oct. 1 after learning of a warrant for his arrest in connection with a Sept. 22 assault at Brews and Cues on Rathbun Street. He was arrested, charged with felony assault with a dangerous weapon, and later released on $5,000 bail. Police Det. Eugene Jalette said that in the course of their investigation into the assault of James Roberson, 39, of Woonsocket at 11 p.m. Sept. 22, they called Maguire to ask him questions. Maguire refused to speak with police about the attack, during which Jalette said more than one person beat Roberson. The attack sent Roberson to the hospital bleeding from his face and with an injured arm. Police obtained an arrest warrant for Maguire …

City Man Led Police On Foot Chase, Violating Bail Sept. 29

Justin Menard, on bail for charges of firing shots at a man and blocking a street, fled police and resisted arrest.

A man on bail after turning himself in last month for a shooting on Florida Street, also a suspect in a recent assault, punched an officer while resisting arrest Thursday night.  Justin R. Menard, 25, of Woonsocket, is being held without bail pending a November hearing.  Menard evaded police for months while wanted in connection with a shooting on Florida St. In September, he turned himself in for the incident, in which he is accused of blocking a roadway and shooting at Alvin Huggins. Huggins backed his vehicle into a house to escape the gunfire. Menard was released on bail, but came to the attention of police again on Sept. 22 when they responded to Brews & Cues at 42 Rathbun St. for a fight at 11 p.m., said Woonsocket Police Det. Eugene…

I read those comments from the Florida St article. Frankly, it looks like his "friends" want to defend him but it comes down to this: whatever the case is with the Florida St shooting, and whether or not the "victim" is also the perpertrator is not the issue.
