Fair weather graced Woonsocket's 2013 Memorial Day Parade May 27. The parade kicked off promptly at 10 a.m. from the corner of Cumberland & Clinton Streets, on its way to the Veteran's Memorial Bridge for a wreath laying ceremony, where Members of the Woonsocket High School ROTC and the Elks Emblem Club carried flowers to the bridge and threw them into the river in honor of veterans who lost their lives at sea.

Young and old marched across the city to pay respect for those who died serving the country.
Spring re-asserted itself Monday in time for this year's Memorial Day Parade, gathering local officials, schools and the Woonsocket Police Department for trek through the city honoring servicemen and women who gave their lives in service The parade kicked off promptly at 10 a.m. from the corner of Cumberland & Clinton Streets, marching to Worral Street toward the Korean War/Vietnam War Memorial for a wreath laying ceremony, followed by the playing of Taps, and music by the Woonsocket High School band. The parade then marched up Worral Street onto Social Street to the Civil War Memorial at Monument Square, for another wreath laying and recital of the Gettysburg Address. Ernest Boisvert, City's Veteran of the Year, will be Grand Marshal during Memorial Day Parade Monday.
When Americans honor those who died in service On Memorial Day Monday, Vietnam Veteran Ernest Boisvert will recite some of their names, including a few friends. Boisvert served with the 4th Infantry Division from Sept. 1966 to Sept. 1967 as an Infantryman during the Vietnam war, earning the rank of E5 (Specialist 5th class). Boisvert said he befriended all of the men he served with as they shared an intense eight months of training. "I have no brothers and the guys I was with I called my siblings, so to speak," Boisvert said. One of those guys, Jim Blanchard, was from Pascoag, RI. He liked to play cards, and he was a typical 19-year-old. "Like all of us back then, we really didn't have a care in the world," Boisvert said. The two shared…

Veterans, students, friends and families gathered to watch the Annual Memorial Day Parade!
Woonsocket's Annual Memorial Day Parade had veterans, students, friends and families gathered together to remember service men and women who lost their lives serving the country. The Grand Marshall was Thomas G. Paine, 83, a chaplain who has served in the Navy and Army National Guard. Joining Paine in the march were The Woonsocket High School band, WFD Honor Guard, WPD Honor Guard, Woonsocket Middle School band, Woonsocket High School AFJR ROTC and Our Lady Queen of Matyrs Cub Scout Pack 2, Cub Scout Pack 6, The Knights of Columbus, the Elks, The RI Combat Motorcycle Association, and the Christian Motorcycle Group, as well as a parade float decked in patriotic decorations.
