Mayoral candidate seeks public input in campaign for city's top office.
Dave Fisher, Green Party candidate for Mayor in Woonsocket, will host the first in a series of public listening events at Harris Public Library May 23, 6-8 p.m. Fisher said he'll use the event to gather input and insight from local residents and business owners on the future of the city. “One of the key values of the Green Party is grassroots democracy,” says Fisher, “given our current situation in Woonsocket, it is more important than ever for people to get involved in the process.” Fisher recently launched a website outlining four-point platform, including homestead exemptions awarded by length of residency, a 5-year inventory/tangible asset tax holiday, hiring a full-time grant writer for the city, efficiency/renewable energy upgrades…

Candidate makes case for mayor on Youtube, blog, Facebook.
Dave Fisher, former campaign manager for Congressional candidate Abel Collins, reporter for for EcoRI.org and occasional blogger for Woonsocket Patch, announced his run for Mayor this week on RIFuture.org. "This is an idea that I've been kicking around in my head for the last couple of election cycles," Fisher said in a YouTube video of his announcement. Fisher said he intends to stop the city's "downward slide" by providing new ideas at the local level. "It pains me to see the decline of this city that I grew up in that I have so much pride in," Fisher said. He added that municipal and state leaders aren't, "bringing anything new to the table." RiverzEdge will host walk from their building to Stadium Theater.
This afternoon at about 1 p.m., the folks at RiverzEdge will get a visit from local economic development officials, Mayor Leo Fontaine, Sen. Jack Reed (D-RI) and NEA Chairman Rocco Landesman. "We're very excited to welcome Jack Reed and NEA (National Endwoment for the Arts) Chairman Rocco Landesman to start their tour at RiverzEdge," said Rebekah Greenwald, executive director of the arts - based youth development non-profit. RiverzEdge gives educationally and economically disenfranchised youth (ages 12 to 24) in northern Rhode Island an opportunity for paid employment in the arts and a voice in their community.
